A visit to Norfolk offers a refreshing escape from the hustle and bustle of busy Britain
A visit to Norfolk offers a refreshing escape from the hustle and bustle of busy Britain. Norfolk is possibly most famous for the man-made Broads, over 125 miles of lock-free waterways set in beautiful countryside and with many charming and picturesque towns and villages. Combine this with a cruise on the Broads, a nostalgic railway journey and a visit to a stately home, and there is no better way to enjoy a fabulous break.
Set within 150 acres of beautiful Norfolk parkland, the four-star Dunston Hall Hotel combines Victorian elegance with modern comfort. This magnificent country house offers excellent leisure facilities and provides the perfect base for exploring the Broads and North Norfolk coast.
Day 1
Morning departure and travel to Norfolk for a 4-night stay.
Day 2
Today we head to the beautiful North Norfolk Heritage Coast, beginning with a visit to the charming Georgian market town of Holt. Here, we board The Poppy Line for a nostalgic heritage railway journey through the stunning Norfolk countryside and coastline to Sheringham. We then continue to the popular seaside resort of Cromer, famous for its Victorian pier, traditional seaside atmosphere and delicious Cromer crab.
Day 3
Today we spend the day at Sandringham Estate, the much-loved Norfolk retreat of the late Queen Elizabeth II. The magnificent stately house has been the country retreat for generations of British monarchs and is set in 24 hectares of stunning landscaped gardens, perhaps the finest of all the Royal gardens. The house remains very much as it was in Edwardian times, whilst the museum is home to extraordinary collections of memorabilia.
Day 4
We travel to Horning, where you board your boat for a relaxing cruise on the Norfolk Broads. This afternoon, we will visit Norwich, with over 1,500 listed buildings, two cathedrals and an imposing Norman castle, Norwich is said to be the most complete medieval city in Britain. It is also famed as the home of Colman's Mustard.
Day 5
Sadly, it is time to head home, with comfort stops en route.
