Normandy - WW2 Battlefields

Departure: Tuesday 15th October 2019

Holiday Preview

Due to our successful trip to WW1 Battlefields in 2018, we thought it would be of interest to visit the WW2 Battlefields in 2019.

2019 will be the 75th Anniversary of the D-Day landings which took place on 6th June 1944. So why not join us and experience the beaches, battlegrounds, cemeteries and museums of the D-Day invasion. Understand why the battles were fought, and how. See the memorials and understand the extraordinary deeds and astonishing sacrifices which were made.

Day 1
We travel to Portsmouth for the afternoon crossing to Caen and on to our hotel for the next 3 nights. Due to the late evening arrival at hotel, there is NO evening meal included, so it is recommended to make use of the restaurants on board the ferry.

Days 2 - 3

  • American Sector - Guided Tour: We visit Sainte Mere Eglise, the scene of the tragic landings of the US paras. See Utah Beach, before we head to the American Cemetery and Omaha Beach. We continue to The Memorial Museum of The Battle of Normandy, the gateway to the D-Day beaches, a unique museum which allows you to immerse yourself in to The Battle of Normandy. We then visit The Bayeux Tapestry, a unique artefact of its kind; made in the 11th Century. We will end the day with a visit to The Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery.
  • British Sector - Guided Tour: The day starts with a visit to Pegasus Bridge, Cafe Gondre and the Pegasus Bridge Museum before heading to Ranville Commonwealth Cemetery and Breville Ridge. We will also visit the Atlantic Wall Museum (The Grand Bunker). Then we will continue along the landing beaches of Sword, Juno and Gold before a final stop in Arromanches to visit the Arromanches 360 Cinema and the landing museum, focusing on the amazing Mulberry floating port.

Day 4
An early breakfast in order to depart the hotel in time for a short drive to the port of Caen for the early ferry (day crossing) back to Portsmouth.
