Holiday Preview

Balmoral Castle and Estate, Falkirk Wheel, Strathspey Railway, Nevis Range Mountain Gondola, Loch Lomond Cruise.

Day 1
We start our journey and head to our overnight hotel in Lancashire.

Day 2
Today we will travel north into Scotland, and enjoy a coffee break at Gretna Green with its famous Blacksmith's shop. We then take a trip to the unique Falkirk Wheel, an amazing feat of engineering and the world's first and only rotating boatlift. We continue to Perthshire to the town of Blairgowrie and our home for the next three nights, the Angus Hotel.

Days 3 - 4

  • Marvel at the spectacular mountain views as you pass through Glenshee into Royal Deeside to visit the famous village of Braemar, and the town of Ballater, where many Royal Warrants are displayed by suppliers to the Queen, Crathie Church, where the Royal Family worship, and Balmoral Estate - here you will be able to visit the gardens, audio visual exhibition and the largest room in the castle, The Ballroom.
  • A visit to the historic city of Dundee, with its famous Tay rail and road bridges, The Royal Research Ship Discovery, the ship built in Dundee specifically for Captain Scott's heroic voyage to Antarctica, and the spectacular looking new V & A in Dundee, Scotland's first design museum which only opened in September 2018.

Day 5
We continue to head north into the Perthshire Highlands and enjoy a morning stop in the popular Victorian town of Pitlochry, before venturing under the shadows of the Cairngorms to the Highland town of Aviemore, here we will have plenty of time for lunch, before enjoying a nostalgic trip back in time on the Strathspey Railway. We travel east along the shores of Loch Laggan to Fort William, home of the traditional and characterful Victorian Alexandra Hotel, your base for the next three nights.

Day 6
Free day to relax and explore Fort William which is one of the major resorts of the Highlands and is set on the shore of Loch Linnhe in the shadow of Britain's highest mountain, Ben Nevis. Whilst here, why not enjoy a loch cruise or a rail trip on the famous West Highland Line.

Day 7
Morning visit to the Nevis Range, for a wonderful ride whilst experiencing stunning views on Britain's only Mountain Gondola. We head north via Loch Lochy and Loch Oich to the lovely town of Fort Augustus, where the meeting point of the Caledonian Canal and the southernmost point of Loch Ness is located. This afternoon we head back to Fort William via a short stop at the Commando Memorial at Spean Bridge.

Day 8
Relax and enjoy the stunning Highland scenery via Glencoe and follow the shores of Loch Lomond to the enchanting town of Balloch situated on the southern shores of the Loch, from where you will enjoy a wonderfully scenic one hour Loch Lomond cruise. We head further east to our last hotel, the Barony Castle Hotel, just North of Peebles, for a two night stay.

Day 9
Excursion to the captivating and historic capital city of Scotland, Edinburgh, with time to explore its many sights including the imposing Castle, the Royal Mile, Princes Street, and if you wish, the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the official Scottish residence of The Queen.

Day 10
Sadly, it is time to head home, but the wonderful Scottish scenery does not stop yet as we travel back through the Scottish Borders with plenty of comfort stops on route.
